Final Update – I’ve stopped tracking the pre-orders now, since the Switch 2 is out, so this page is no longer up to date for finding consoles. As a historical piece of interest, however, it’s still relevant.
The punch line is, The Switch 2 was Nintendo’s fastest selling console ever in it’s first month, and possibly the fastest selling console ever in the first month. Many stores even in Australia sold out but didn’t update their websites to say “sold out” because they were selling pre-orders for the next batch, post-launch day, so the Switch 2 sold out in even more locations than I could track
Long story short – it’s launch was incredibly popular, and as of time of writing, remains popular a month out from launch.

I can’t think of the last time I’ve seen so many different people talking about a console, even just friends’ colleagues around the office who aren’t gamers. Everyone has an opinion. As a Nintendo fan myself (who’s very excited about the Switch 2 and putting my game Puzzledorf on both Switch consoles), I thought it would be fun to track where the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are selling out and where they are available. Feel free to point out any I’ve missed.
Overall, the demand remains high, with many places selling out fast. 9 countries sold out as of May 5, 2025.

Apparently the console has been so popular in Japan, the Nintendo eShop has been crashed for 5 days straight, causing Nintendo to issue a public apology. You can currently only register for a lottery with My Nintendo Japan, but pre-orders are expected to go live April 24, 2025. Other retailers are also planning lotteries, as listed below.
